Resources for Faculty, Staff, and Student Leaders

The Office of Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) creates a web of support for faculty, staff, and students through a variety of education and prevention efforts. Those who may benefit include:

  • those interested in learning more about college student mental health
  • those who may want to know more about how to help a friend
  • those who may feel stigmatized regarding seeking therapy

In addition, CAPS staff are trained to give presentations to faculty, staff, and students about issues that are relevant to life on the college campus. These presentations can be customized to fit your specific needs.

Mental Health Peer Mentors

Our Mental Health Peer Mentors are a vital part of the campus community, offering support, connection, and advocacy to fellow students. Peer support programming has been recognized as a best practice model for increasing social connectedness for students. Peers are uniquely positioned to understand and empathize with their fellow students' experiences, creating a sense of trust and connection.

Peer Mentors are trained student leaders who provide informal, non-clinical support to their peers. Through outreach events, classroom presentations, tabling efforts, and engaging social media content, they work to reduce stigma and promote mental health awareness across campus. They also facilitate group discussions and provide one-on-one mentorship, helping students navigate stress, build coping strategies, and find a sense of belonging.

By sharing their own experiences and listening without judgment, Mental Health Peer Mentors foster a supportive environment where students feel seen, heard, and valued.
