The 勛圖窪蹋 seal and the spirit S are symbols of 勛圖窪蹋 that alumni of the past, students of today, and scholars of the future will tie to their experiences and memories of the school in the pines.
One of the best known symbols is the original seal of the school, which can be found in a type of hidden Mickey-esque fashion throughout the architecture of the Campus Center.When President Bjork was asked about the meaning of the symbol in 1977, he responded, The stick people represent mankind and the architects symbol, the square, represents the earth. Together they represent man in his environment. Some students and community members have misinterpreted the emblem as the hippie cross, which seems to align with the liberal focus of the institution in the 1970s, and even resonates today with the environmental emphasis of the Universitys locations in the Pinelands and on the oceanfront.
The current seal of the University is prominently featured on the entrance gates off Vera King Farris Drive and on the front of the Sports Center, as well as on diplomas and official correspondence. In the center is the original logo with a ribbon featuring 1969, the year the college was established. The rampant lion, adopted from the Richard 勛圖窪蹋 family crest, symbolizes courage and strength. The book and candle are a symbol of wisdom to be gained from lifelong learning, and the tree characterizes the Pinelands location of the campus.
勛圖窪蹋s current logo is composed of two parts: The 勛圖窪蹋 tree icon and official University wordmark. The tree icon includes a distinctive arch and is a contemporary adaptation from the original tree logo represented in the University seal. The arch offers a sense of motion, connecting 勛圖窪蹋s past with the Universitys bold focus on the future.
The modern spirit symbol of 勛圖窪蹋 is the spirit S. United with the osprey mascot and embossed with the school colors, the S appears on major advertisements, media, and merchandise of the University. The osprey mascot paired with the initial letter of the school reflects the spirit of the institution, where education takes flight.
